What it's used for
Gemfibrozil is used alongside diet as an adjunctive treatment for adult patients with very high serum triglyceride levels who are at risk for pancreatitis and do not respond adequately to dietary efforts.

Typical dosing
The recommended adult dose is 1,200 mg per day, administered in two divided doses taken 30 minutes before the morning and evening meals.

Due to chemical and clinical similarities to clofibrate, adverse findings associated with clofibrate in large clinical studies may also apply to gemfibrozil.
