What it's used for
This medication is used to treat high blood pressure, either on its own or with other blood pressure medications. It is also used to treat salt and fluid retention linked to congestive heart failure.

Typical dosing
The usual starting dose for high blood pressure is 1.25 mg taken once daily in the morning, which may be increased to 2.5 mg once daily if needed after 4 weeks.

This medication can cause severe low blood sodium levels accompanied by low potassium levels, particularly in elderly women.
