What it's used for
Metronidazole tablets are used to treat symptomatic and asymptomatic Trichomonas vaginalis infections in females and males when confirmed by laboratory procedures.

Typical dosing
For females with trichomoniasis, treatment can be a one-day course of two grams given as a single dose or two divided doses, or a seven-day course of 250 mg three times daily.

Common side effects
Serious central nervous system reactions include convulsive seizures, encephalopathy, aseptic meningitis, and peripheral neuropathy characterized by numbness or tingling.
